INAUGURAL · MARCH 25, 2023 · EWR → DXB

Newark → Dubai

A seat on the first departure of a new United route.

A first flight in the log

On March 25, 2023, I was aboard UA164 from Newark to Dubai. My record puts me in seat 1L on Boeing 777-200ER N77012. The sector added 6,861 miles to the journey.

An inaugural gives a flight a second place in the record: it belongs to a personal itinerary and to the opening of a route. This one was the first departure of United's Newark–Dubai nonstop service.

Why it mattered

The new nonstop was part of United's agreement with Emirates. Dubai became a connecting point to the Emirates and flydubai networks, giving the route a role beyond the city itself.

For my log, it is a confirmed inaugural: the flight record establishes that I was aboard, and United's own inaugural listing establishes the first departure as UA164 on March 25.
